In the fifties women in comedy were hard to come by, but the few that were around were brilliant. Joyce Grenfell was one of the greatest. Joyce appeared in many films including the St Trinians series as well as doing a lot of radio work. Her monologues were were hilarious, the most famous being "George, Don't do that!"
Elsie And Doris Waters
An oddity on the comedy scene in those days as they were actually women dressed as women. As Gert and Daisy they carried on a quick fire conversation of one liners. While they were bemoaning such things as rationing their brother Jack Warner was keeping the streets of Dock Green safe, "Evening All".
