The Light Programme.
Domestic comedy or sit-coms as they are known today,
were also very popular. Many of the top script writers started out on these
programmes. Nearly all all were performed live in front of an audience.
Everything was broadcast, mistakes and all.
Dick Bentley, Joy Nichols and Jimmy Edwards were
the residents of 'Take It From Here'. First broadcast 23 March 1948 it
soon developed into a much loved programme. By the early 50's June Whitfield
joined the cast. She became Dick's fiancée 'Eth. "Ho Ron"......"Yes
Eth?" was a regular exchange between the two. Edwards played the
domineering father. June Whitfield became the greatest supporting actress
in the history of the BBC.

Rays A Laugh
Ted Ray (the King Of The One Liners) was one of the
great comedians. First broadcast 4th April 1949 quickly established it's
self as a firm favourite. Kitty Bluett the Australian actress played his
radio wife. Many great names appeared in the show. Peter Sellars and Kenneth
Connor were many of the voices. Patricia Hayes played Crystal Jollybottom,
who's catchphrase "Stop it, you saucebox", caught on. Charles
Leno played 'Dear old Dad' who had 'lost his faith in human nature'.
Life With The Lyons.
Ben Lyon and Bebe Daniels came over from Canada during
the war to entertain the troops. The British public took them very much
to heart.
