| The
variety of music that was in the Hit Parade of the day covered
the whole musical spectrum. David Whitfield was topping the
charts with his rich light operatic voice. David Whitfield was
Britain's number one singer in the fifties and had no less than
19 hit records in the Hit Parade from 1953 to 1959. He was the
first British male singer to receive a Gold Disc for his recording
of 'Cara Mia'. He was chosen to appear in three Royal Command
Performances and appeared eight times on the Ed Sullivan Show
in America, which stands as an all time record for a British
artiste. He sang the theme song for the film 'Sea Wife' which
starred Richard Burton and Joan Collins (I'll Find You). He
also had a very successful pantomime season at the London Palladium
with Arthur Askey and Tommy Cooper (Robinson Crusoe) in 1958.
He topped the bill on Sunday night at the London Palladium on
several occasions. |
