I was 10
Not much for us kids this year. All very political with Churchill
going and Anthony Eden coming. Bertrand Russell and a host of other
Nobel prize winners signed a declaration that "nuclear weapons threaten
the continued existence of mankind".
The real happening was in the shops, clothing was making it's
way back and the shopping public could not get enough.

'Luncheon Vouchers' Introduced.
Mary Quant opened her first Boutique Bazaar in
the Kings Road, Chelsea.
Oh! Fish Fingers arrived this year.

After the sales were done

The self service shop started to make it's appearance,
but many products were still sold loose. Staff were there to weigh
things for you. Today in my local Sainsbury's they have provided
scales so I can weigh things for my self. Progress!!
