| Going to the pictures
was the best time of the week. They talk a lot today about the violence
on the screen, but as children of the fifties we could go every week
and see entire Indian populations wiped out by three cowboys. Indians
were notoriously bad shots. Every Saturday morning thousands of children
would go to their local cinema free of their parents. All were club
members with a club song, ours was 'The Welling Granadiers' sung to
the tune of the 'The British Grenadiers'. |
