One of the good things about Saturday morning pictures was the serial. The Super Heroes, the ones that could fly faster than a speeding bullet, leap buildings and do all manner of wonderful things. Even with these wonderful powers they still ended up in a life or death situation at the end of every episode.

 

Kirk Alyn played Superman in two serials between 1948-1950. Due to the limitations of filming in black and white Superman's uniform had to be grey and brown. Somehow I wish I never knew that....

George Reeves played Superman for six years. He shocked his fans by shooting himself with a Kryptonite bullet in 1959

Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon and Charles Middleton as Ming the Merciless.

With a cry of Shazam Tom Tyler was transformed into Captain Marvel.

Robert Lowery as Batman and Johnny Duncan as Robin. They look more like Del boy and Rodney to me

Lew B Wilson as Batman. I don't know who Robin is but he looks like a nice boy.
