During the fifties it was discovered that parents had been bringing their children up wrongly. In 1946 Dr. Benjamin Spock wrote a book telling parents where they were going wrong. In his first book he advocated more freedom for children. In later books (after Rock'n'Roll) he changed his mind. Manufacturers also jumped on the band wagon with lots of advice to parents.
