The shops were starting to fill up with all sorts of products. Many things had never been seen before. Life was exciting at meal times as mum would often try new things. Some times trying things once was more than enough.

After so many years of rationing and making do, meat was making it's way into the shops. To help the housewife these pictures were published to show what bit was what. It was such a long time since the artist who drew these pictures had seen meat, that he was not sure what the bits were called (a sheep's Trotter?).

A nice cup of tea that helped us through those days..

This was the start of the fast food revolution.

For those of you that can not remember: a Guinea was £1/1s or 21/-. So 66gns = £69/6s or £69.30p. Maths was fun in the fifties.

During the fifties fridges were few and far between. As the housewife would do her shopping each day for the daily meal, you could always tell the ones who had bought frozen food. They would be the ones running home like banshees before the food defrosted.
