Toast 3-4 slices of new bread until crisp and brown,
almost to the point of burning, but the bread must not actually
char or the drink will be bitter. The toasting must be done slowly
so that the bread is very hard.
Put the toast while hot into a large jug, pour
very cold water over, and leave for several hours. Strain into glasses
and add a thin slice of lemon or a mint leaf. The toast water must
be as cold as possible.
