Toast Water

We seem to have forgotten the cool and refreshing drink which our grandmothers made in large quantities and kept in the cellar or cell-cool pantries in the summer time, yet it is easy to make.

Bread & Water

Mik Of Magnesia

Toast 3-4 slices of new bread until crisp and brown, almost to the point of burning, but the bread must not actually char or the drink will be bitter. The toasting must be done slowly so that the bread is very hard.

Put the toast while hot into a large jug, pour very cold water over, and leave for several hours. Strain into glasses and add a thin slice of lemon or a mint leaf. The toast water must be as cold as possible.
