The role of the fifties woman was that of the home maker. Manufacturers and advertisers were quick to see this and jump on the band wagon. By the end of the fifties nearly every product had been improved all in the name of efficiency and time saving. The big conundrum for men in those days was, if women had more spare time, 'Why did it take so long for them to get dressed and were always late?'

Fire Watching

Here is a typical British family. Father is at work and mother plays with the children a game called 'Fire Watching'

Brushes

A selection of brushes that no self respecting woman could do without..

Brushes

To my untrained eye they look like things you could buy from adult magazines (so my wife tells me).

Cleaning

It was left to the woman to clean the grate each morning. Ready for the nights exciting game of 'Fire Watching', while dad goes to the pub.

scuttle

A gift idea for the woman who has everything. A two handed coal scuttle.

Hoover

By the late fifties, the modern woman had discarded her old fashioned utensils and went electric.

Dryer

This is the first time I have seen this type of drying cabinet. I think it was only used on the Star Ship Enterprise to dry Captain Kirks underwear.
